Parks Superintendent wins national award for leadership

Seattle Parks and Recreation Acting Superintendent Christopher Williams was recently selected to receive a National R.O.S.E. (Recognition of Significant Efforts) Award by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

Each year, NRPA National Awards are presented to individuals and agencies across the U.S. to honor their efforts—both professional and personal—in the field of parks and recreation.  Recipients are selected from a pool of applicants by NRPA’s National Forum Awards Committee, and are chosen for excellence in a variety of topics, including professional and voluntary service, programming, leadership, research and public outreach.

NRPA recognized Christopher for his leadership during a time of transition for Seattle Parks, his innovative thinking about Parks operations in a time of declining revenues, and his management style, which is to assume positive intent and “manage by relationship.”

Congratulations, Christopher!

Christopher and Mayor Mike: We are so lucky to have Chris and all the staff doing great work for Parks.
I know,as with other departments ,there have been deep cuts.
What an incredible Parks bunch, as a volunteer at little Lewis Park, It is amazing how fast things get done when we ask for supplies, or help with someting.

Kudos to Chris for this award. It is time to remove the “Acting” in front of his name. He could be even more effective if his title didn’t make him look temporary.
