Helping our kids succeed through the Families and Education levy

Last November voters gave their approval to the new and improved Families & Education Levy, which is great news for Seattle’s youth and families. Here at the City we’re working to get those funds out into the community as soon as possible. The first big step is to find the community groups, non-profits and other organizations that we’ll partner with to help our students succeed.

So we need your help to get the word out about this opportunity. We want to make sure that everyone in our community has a chance to apply for these funds. It’s important that the people chosen to administer these City funds are as diverse as the students they are helping. And since the levy was written to be tied to outcomes, we need a large and competitive applicant pool to make sure we get the best results possible from our investments. Help us make sure that service providers working with kids in our community are aware of this opportunity by forwarding this information along.

Our Office for Education has released their Requests for Qualifications (RFQ’s) and Requests for Program Information (RPI’s) for the four program areas that the Levy funding will focus on:

  • Elementary Social, Emotional, Behavioral and Family Support
  • Middle and High School Social, Emotional and Behavioral Support
  • Elementary, Middle and High School Expanded Learning Opportunities
  • Middle and High School College and Career Readiness and Planning

The deadline to apply is 4:30 pm on Tuesday, February 14th, and the Office for Education will be hosting four public information sessions, one for each program area, between January 12th and January 18th.

See seattle.gov/neighborhoods/education/rfq.htm for more information, including application forms, registration links for the info sessions, and email addresses and phone numbers for staff at the Office for Education whom you can contact with any further questions. Please forward this link far and wide to any organizations you think might be interested in applying for funding.

Also, if you haven’t already, you can sign up for the Families & Education Levy listserv by sending an email to FAM_EDLEVY-subscribe-request@talk2.seattle.gov.
