2011 Large Projects Fund helps twelve neighborhood projects

Awardees for the Department of Neighborhood’s Large Projects Fund were celebrated today at City Hall. Deputy Mayor Darryl Smith was on hand to lend his support.

Examples of some of the great projects funded include a project in Central Seattle that gives access to a state of the art video studio and other media production tools, planning and design for an urban farm and wetlands project (at the former Atlantic City Nursery site) in Rainier Beach and playground renovations in Ballard. Twelve projects received funding.

These awards (given once a year) are designed to support community members in building community relationships around a project and can be as large as $100,000. As a requirement, projects should demonstrate capacity to build a stronger and healthier community. They also:

  • Provide a public benefit and be free and open to all members of the public.
  • Emphasize self-help, with project ideas initiated, planned and implemented by the neighbors and community members who will themselves be impacted by the project.
  • Demonstrate community match.
  • Occur within the Seattle city limits.
